Hello April, Goodbye February + March! | Behind The Lens

So I dropped the ball on my February "behind the lens" blog. It was a crazy month with traveling and shooting and then mid-March rolled around and I realized "Whoops, I didn't blog February (just my trip up north) so I just waited and combined the two months ;)

So now you just get one big blog recapping two months which flew right by.

Here is a recap of February + March and all it's fun happenings documented through Instagram pictures.

Starting with February....

Added this fabulous nail polish holder I spray painted gold to the office and made my first attempt at making homemade almond butter. SO GOOD and easy to make!

Held the first (of hopefully many! Need to start planning the next one!) Ladies professional night! I got be with old and new friends. Photographers and other amazing wedding industry women. Great night!

Got to see this munchkin, Miss Amelia who's birth story I photographed 6+ months ago. Oh how the time flies.

Valentines started off with a healthy breakfast made by the hubby and ended with a lovely dinner and diabeetus from all the chocolate ;)

Then it was off to New York, Boston + Rhode Island for 5 days seeing lots of my family, my friend Nessa of 18 years and lots of exploring
See the full blog on my adventures in NYC here

The boys were happy we were home when we got back though..

Then it was March....

Made protein blueberry pancakes from scratch. I'm in love with our food processor that we uh had for a while and I'm just recently becoming obsessed with. They were the best pancakes I have ever had by the way ;)

I joined a new gym to challenge myself more than I was at Bailey's. Crome is AMAZING. I thought I was in shape before but this program pushes me and I'm doing things I never could do before. The trainers are wonderful and I honestly look forward to every workout despite dripping sweat and wanting to die afterward ;) Best choice ever joining this place!

Also tried out some darker lip colors this month. Trying to go outside of my comfort zone!

March is birthday month for both Ben and I. We started it off with some birthday festivities for the hubbs with all our favorite people.

Ah the joys of tax time. Not. (This isn't even everything)

Sleepy fur nephew and finally got to meet sweet baby Devan. Congrats to Paulina + Skip!

Crafting. Working on cake toppers for a Boston wedding and a floral wreath for a rock the dress

When you know it's time to trim the bangs...

Photobooth fun at the Tom Cophlin Charity Gala and lunch with furbabies and friends.

The it was my birthday. I was told I was 'Twenty Great" and not 28. I'll take it ;)
Yummy lunch, great dinner with friends and then shopping on my actual birthday.

Excited for April and lots of shooting, editing and catching up while gearing up for a very busy May!

Welcome To The Family | Behind The Lens

I would like to introduce you to two new family members to the WHP team. They will be put through a lot, see tons of new things, shoot a lot of upcoming weddings and be very loved.

Please welcome.... Miss Gracie Butterscotch by Jo Totes. My hubby, Ben got me this for my birthday last week and I was ecstatic. He knew I wanted (and needed) a new main camera bag that was not only pretty to look at but comfortable to wear for 10+ hours, not bulky and could hold everything I mainly use and need on me at all times during a wedding. My old camera bag I had was too small and just not functional any more and my other camera bag that holds my back up gear and misc equipment is also a Jo Totes bag but is more bulky and not for wearing constantly. Gracie Butterscotch here has pockets for days (front, back and hidden ones. I LOVE storage) and is SO comfortable as a crossbody. I'm so excited to try her out for Kathryn + Brian's wedding this weekend.

And also please welcome... Mr. 8mm fisheye lens who I have lusted after for as long as I can remember. Some fisheye lenses were just so outrageously expensive and I just never got around to getting one. Then I found this one at a reasonable price and it got amazing reviews. So as a birthday present to myself I bought it and I'm so excited to have this be apart of my gear. Equally excited to test this guy out for Kathryn + Brian's wedding this weekend (They are just getting a "Super excited Krystal with new stuff" weekend along with their wedding day)

New York City | Behind The Lens

It's been quiet on the blog lately but I have a good reason! Ben and I went on a little up north adventure to visit family and celebrate my Popou (my Greek grandfather) turning 90 years old! I got to see a ton of family, some of which I haven't seen in 15+ years. It was a wonderful little trip. We decided to visit my friend Nessa in New York for two days, spent one day in Boston and the other day in Rhode Island then fly home. We navigated the NY Subway by ourselves at some parts and I was pretty proud because I must say...I feel like the Boston "T" is easier to navigate. I have to be honest here. I feel like there is no signage to let you know where you are in the NY subway! Maybe I'm just used to the Boston vibe for the subway, who knows. We never got lost though so I call it a win. I did have a battle with one of the subway doors closing when I was trying to get on and I won. Ben and Nessa just stared at me and I totally contribute it to my mini muscles and not the conductor of the train seeing me trying to get on or anything. Obviously.

We had a blast on our little four day adventure (which felt like a week - in a good way. We packed in  A LOT of stuff and saw a lot of people we wanted to see) I brought my camera all over NYC and shot for myself which I mentioned in another blog post about being a goal in 2014 - Shooting for myself when I'm not working. I have been known to be neglectful of documenting my own life since I'm constantly documenting other peoples lives. Shooting objects or places honestly just isn't as interesting as shooting people and weddings which I truly am inspired by but shooting just for myself and the places I am at is nice and it's growing on me again ;)

I hope you enjoy some of my favorite shots I took all around New York. All of these were shot with my trusty (and tiny) 25mm 2.8 pancake lens which is perfect for travel for me because it doesn't add much weight to my already heavy camera body.

...And you may notice I have been in a black and white mood lately ;)

On our way to the MET. I LOVED it and we barely got to see it all.

The Cruel Intentions house. My teenage self was giddy.

My beautiful friend of 18 years, Nessa.

My sweet husband

 Central Park

The 9/11 Memorial. They have done an incredible job so far. Awe inspiring.

The best vanilla chai latte I've ever had. Seriously ah-mayzing.

Delicious lunch at Grey Dog in Soho. Loved this place!

And... finally got to see Grand Central Station and played with some shutter drag.
